He wanted to be the name whispered in taverns, the silhouette at the edge of every battlefield, the reason empires shift without knowing why. This self-mythology is the engine of the entire narrative. He is, by every objective measure, absurdly overpowered. He learns Arts with casual ease, defeats foes who should be national-level threats without breaking a sweat, and has accumulated a repertoire of abilities that would make seasoned mages weep. Yet his public identity remains that of a slightly eccentric, unremarkable student who blends into the background.

The rain had not stopped for three days. In the back room of a shuttered apothecary in the capital's lower district, a figure in a long black coat sat motionless, fingers steepled beneath a chin no one would ever see. Across the table, a woman with silver-streaked hair and a scar bisecting her left eyebrow poured tea with hands that did not tremble, though every nerve in her body screamed that they should. "Master," she said, the word falling like a key into a lock. "The Council has moved the garrison. They are three days ahead of schedule." The figure did not turn. Did not blink. The silence stretched until the rain on the roof became a kind of white noise, a lullaby for the dying. Then, softly, as if commenting on the weather: "Then we will be four days ahead of them."

He stood. The coat swallowed the lamplight.
