A pause at the second junction. The leftmost one shifted his weight to the right foot—a habit, a tell, the same micro-adjustment she'd seen in a garrison report three months ago in a different city.

"Shadow-sama," she murmured into the small speaking charm at her collar, her voice bright and light as a child reciting a poem. "The third officer is former Seventh Legion. His gait says he's been drinking. The second one checks his left sleeve every thirty seconds—nervous tic, probably a hidden blade. The first is the real problem. He's not patrolling.
