Delta (Ciel), a former operative of a rival power structure, became his first and most loyal subordinate, and together they built a network of agents designated by Greek-letter codenames.

What makes the Inner Circle unique is the persistent gap between Cid's self-perception and reality. He narrates his own actions as layers of scheming, three moves ahead of everyone. His subordinates, however, are genuinely brilliant in their own right, and they fill in the gaps of his improvisations with such seamless competence that the final result *does* look like a master plan. This creates a self-reinforcing loop: Cid becomes more convinced of his genius, his members become more devoted, and the organization grows more effective than any of them could achieve alone.

Their operations range from covert intelligence gathering to direct confrontation with the world's most dangerous entities. The Inner Circle has clashed with knightly orders, magical academies, and shadowy criminal syndicates, often in ways that leave the opposing factions utterly confused about who they are actually fighting and what the Shadow Court's true objectives even are.

In Their Own Story
